Armand Bayou Nature Center (ABNC) is the largest urban wilderness preserve in the U.S. and a beloved treasure along the Texas Gulf Coast.  The 2,500-acre site is the last undeveloped examples of coast prairie that once was common place. In addition to the coastal prairie, ABNC features bayou wetlands and forest. ABNC is rich in diversity and dense with ecological features and stories.

Founded in 1974 as a result of efforts begun by an environmental visionary, Armand Yramategui ABNC has evolved in the five decades that followed.  Today the natural features are supported with many added elements including buildings, boardwalks, farm and green house plus a children’s area.

Ready to begin the second half of the first century, ABNC contracted Kaser Design to develop a masterplan that would make best use of existing conditions and guide future growth.  The materplan, comprehensive in natural addressed everything from the main marquee signage along Bay Area Blvd to the interpretive messaging guest consume during the bayou boat ride. Specifically Kaser Design addressed the: Discover loop, nature trails, Welcome Center, Interpretive Center, boat ride, bayou overlook, heritage farmhouse, children’s area as well as navigational wayfinding signage.
